How to Use Whipped Tallow Cream on Face and Body

So you've got your first jar of tallow cream. Maybe you've heard friends rave about it, or maybe you're curious after seeing it all over social media. Either way, a few simple habits make a big difference in how it feels on your skin.

The number one thing new tallow users get wrong? Using too much. Let's fix that.

Start small: a pea-sized amount

Tallow is rich. A little truly goes a long way. For your whole face and neck, start with an amount about the size of a pea. You can always add more, but starting small is the easiest way to avoid that heavy, slick feeling.

For hands, elbows, knees, or heels, use a little more and focus on the driest spots.

Warm it first

Scoop out your pea-sized amount and rub it gently between your fingertips for a few seconds. Our whipped tallow melts quickly at skin temperature, turning from fluffy cream to a silky oil. Warming it first helps it spread evenly and absorb faster.

Press, don't rub

Instead of rubbing cream in circles, gently press your fingertips onto your skin: cheeks, forehead, chin, then neck. Pressing helps the tallow sink in and means you use less product. Finish with a few light upward strokes if you like.

Apply to slightly damp skin

This is the tip that changes everything. Tallow works best on skin that's still a little damp from washing or a splash of water. A moisturizer helps seal in hydration, so applying it over damp skin locks that water in.

After cleansing, pat your face mostly dry with a towel, leaving it a touch damp. Then apply your tallow.

Morning or night?

Both work. Here's how to fit it into your routine:

  • Morning: Use a small amount and give it a few minutes to absorb before sunscreen or makeup. Many people find a thin layer makes a smooth base.
  • Night: Feel free to use a little more. Nighttime is a great time for a richer layer, since you're not putting anything on top.

Head-to-toe uses

The same jar works far beyond your face:

  • Rough, dry hands, especially after washing dishes
  • Cuticles and nails
  • Elbows and knees
  • Cracked heels (apply at night and wear cotton socks)
  • Dry patches on legs and arms after a shower
  • Lips, for a quick moisturizing swipe

Storing your tallow cream

Tallow is a natural fat, so its texture responds to temperature. On warm days or after shipping in summer, your cream may soften or look less fluffy. That's normal. Store it somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight, and it will firm back up. Always scoop with clean, dry fingers or a small spatula to keep the jar fresh.

A note on first use

Everyone's skin is different. Before using any new product all over, patch test a small amount on your inner arm or jawline and wait 24 hours. If you have very oily skin, start with tallow at night only, or just on dry areas, and see how your skin feels.

Quick recap

  1. Start with a pea-sized amount.
  2. Warm it between your fingertips.
  3. Press it gently into slightly damp skin.
  4. Store it somewhere cool.

That's it. Simple skincare, done well.
